Tanzania Premier League Resumes As Botswana Ends Season Early
Last weekend saw the return of football in a number of countries. Included among these were Tanzania where the country’s Premier League resumed after a three-month pause as a result of Covid-19.
Tanzania marked the return with a series of fixtures including a match featuring the leaders and defending champions of the League Simba SC. Simba SC have won the last two seasons, but had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home against Ruvu Shooting. However, they still remain 15 points ahead of the second ranked team Azam, who previously won the League in 2014.
In order to protect players and fans a number of restrictions were in place during the games. Fans had to sit at least one meter apart, with temperatures monitored as people entered the stadium. Sanitizers and running water was also made available.
Meanwhile, the Botswana Football Association (BFA) has taken the decision to end the current season as a result of the pandemic. Jwaneng Galazy FC have been declared champions.
In a statement released by the BFA the organization stated that, “The lives and health of the players and the nation at large was prioritised above all.”
Jwaneng Galazy FC were just one point ahead of the second placed Township Rollers with ten rounds of matches left.
