Chipolopolo Crowned COSAFA CUP Champions

Zambia rejoices after a tough 1-0 victory over Namibia in the 2022 Cosafa Cup Final in Durban on Saturday. Zambia has now been the victors of this tournament for the sixth time putting Chipolopolo joint most decorated all-time winners in this tournament.

The only goal of the match came deep into extra time when Albert Kangwanda came off the bench to play a big part in a freak own goal in the 112th minute. Kangwanda had a speculative 30-yard shot, which struck the crossbar and rebounded off the flailing Edward Maova, into the back of the net.

There were no goals in regulation time with the game being very back and forth with no side being able to take complete control over the match. Chipolopolo upped the tempo in the second half but to no avail as extra time was forced upon both teams.

As the joint most decorated winners in this tournament; Zambia is now clear of quarter-final losers, South Africa, who have only won the tournament 5 times and hope to be clear of this year’s tournament absentees, Zimbabwe, next year in Algeria.
