Police Investigate Gassing Near School

Police are investigating an incident in which a tear gas cannister was detonated at the Lusaka Water and Sanitation Company (LWSC) in the city’s Lilanda Township. The gas attack affected pupils at the nearby Lilanda Combined School, some of whom were taken to hospital.

The incident occurred at around 10:30 on Thursday morning, after which several pupils were rushed to George Clinic and Matero Level One Hospital and later discharged.

Policy Deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale said that preliminary investigations suggest the cannister may have been ignited by some kind of mechanism.
