TEACHING SERVICE COMMISSIONER ASKS TEACHERS TO HELP END CHILD MARRIAGES
Regina Musokotwane, Teaching Service Commissioner, has called on newly employed teachers to help end early marriages, especially those in rural communities.
She said that “the recruitment of teachers is about the learner and not to reduce unemployment or to enable teachers get a salary."
She stated that teachers should act as role models for children and encourage their parents not to enter their children into early marriage.
SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED TO OVER 1000 STUDENTS
The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB), has awarded over 1000 students with loans at Mulungushi University.
The board said that over 3,500 applications had been sent to the board but only a third could be accepted.
Chiselwa Kawanda, HELSB Senior Corporate Communications Officer, said that 700 scholarships were from rural areas and 387 were from urban.
TWO PEOPLE KILLED BY ELEPHANTS IN SOUTHERN PROVINCE
Yesterday, a 12-year-old girl in Moboola and a man in Kabanza were killed by elephants.
The elephants are thought to have crossed the Zambezi from neighbouring Zimbabwe.
Their deaths mark a significant concern about wildlife in the Southern Province area.
